It is safe to say that previous attempts at a decent Fantastic Four movie failed, and failed miserably. Not this time. This may be the best, and most genuinely likable FF4 movie we are ever likely to get. It has several interesting features— namely a 60s vibe in terms of cars, clothes, TVs etc. It also does not lack humor. There is both some comedy and also some pathos as well. The dialogue is capable of making you smile or laugh, or say oh no! And the central characters are all likeable, except of course Mr. Bad Guy- world muncher Galactus. He proves too big even for a 3D or IMAX kind of movie. And there is some confusion, because his servant is a or the silver surfer, but in earlier Marvel mags, she was a he, and was basically a good guy or at least neutral. I think Stan Lee and Jack Kirby would have been proud of this film, and in an hommage the second closing trailer is in fact an old FF4 TV cartoon.
Here near the end of summer it is nice to have a good popcorn action flick to enjoy in a summer of weak, and I do mean weak or just plain bad and unwatchable films. At the end of the film, at the end of the first trailer we are told we will see these folks again in the next Avengers movie. Something for Marvel fans to look forward to. For the record, I like the Thing with a beard.
