Bible Story: Jesus Fed a Crowd John 6:1-13
Life Point: God hears and answers prayers.
Weekly Verse: When we pray, God hears us. 1 John 5:14

Materials: Teaching Picture 7, “Allergy Alert” (Printables), blades of grass or section of sod

  • Post the allergy alert where parents can see it when they drop off their kids. Display the teaching picture with the grass.
  • Tell the Bible story as preschoolers touch the grass. Point to the teaching picture. Comment that the people were outside, sitting on the grass. Say that Jesus thanked God for the food, and God heard the prayer and answered it.
  • Say the Weekly Verse with the children.

3–Pre-K—Make Trail Mix

Materials: Teaching Picture 7; “Allergy Alert” (Printables); ingredients for trail mix such as fish-shaped crackers, small pretzels, O-shaped cereal, mini chocolate chips, raisins, marshmallows; bowl and spoon for each ingredient; ziplock bags; permanent marker

  • Post the allergy sign near the door to alert parents. Pour each ingredient into a separate bowl with a spoon. Display the teaching picture nearby. Help preschoolers wash their hands before coming to the table.
  • Print each child’s name on a bag with the marker. Tell the Bible story as preschoolers scoop ingredients into their bags. Point to the teaching picture and remark that Jesus gave thanks to God for the food; God heard and answered His prayer.
  • When the children have finished their bags, pray with them, thanking God that hears their prayers.

Kindergarten—Cook Breakfast

Materials: kitchen center, toy pots and pans, toy dishes, empty breakfast food containers

  • Remind the kids that God hears and answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is not what we want, but what God knows is best.
  • Arrange the materials in the kitchen center. Invite kindergartners to cook breakfast.
  • Tell the Bible story as kid cook. Comment that Jesus thanked God for the food before He fed the people. Say that God heard Jesus’ prayer and a miracle happened.
