I updated this study during Lent of 2023 while reading the Psalms and a book of Puritan prayers. Many of the prayers touched my heart and became my own prayers. Because many of them reminded me of something in Luke, I’ve attached special parts of those prayers at the end of a number of the weekly studies. I hope you find them as deep and applicable as I do.
This prayer felt right as an introduction to the story of Jesus:
O Lover to the Uttermost,
May I read the meltings of thy heart to me
in the manger of thy birth,
in the garden of thy agony,
in the cross of thy suffering,
in the tomb of thy resurrection,
in the heaven of thy intercession. . . .
Thou hast loved me everlastingly, unchangeably,
may I love thee as I am loved.
Thou hast given thyself for me,
may I give myself to thee;
Thou hast died for me,
may I live to thee,
in every moment of my time,
in every movement of my mind,
in every pulse of my heart. . . .1
