Feeling Abandoned by God and Why You’re Not

4 hours ago 2

There are moments in life when it feels like God has walked away. You pray and nothing changes. You try to stay faithful but the pain stays heavy. In those moments the thought creeps in that maybe God has left you to handle everything on your own.

That feeling is real but it is not the truth.

The Bible shows us that even strong believers have felt abandoned by God. David cried out in Psalm 13:1 How long Lord Will you forget me forever How long will you hide your face from me These words are raw and honest and God did not reject David for them. Instead He preserved them in Scripture to remind us that struggling faith is still faith.

Feeling abandoned does not mean God has abandoned you. God Himself promises in Hebrews 13:5 I will never leave you nor forsake you That promise is not based on how you feel in the moment. It is based on God’s unchanging character.

Often what feels like abandonment is actually a season of testing or growth. Isaiah 54:7 says For a brief moment I abandoned you but with deep compassion I will bring you back God acknowledges the feeling while still declaring His compassion and restoration. What feels like distance is never the end of the story.

Even Jesus experienced this feeling. On the cross He cried out My God my God why have you forsaken me He felt the weight of separation so we would never have to be truly separated from God. Through Jesus we are permanently held by God’s love even when our hearts feel empty.

God is closest to the brokenhearted. Psalm 34:18 tells us The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit When you feel abandoned you are not pushed away. You are actually seen and held in a deeper way than you realize.

Sometimes God removes the feeling of His presence to teach us to trust His promises instead of our emotions. Faith is not built on what we feel but on who God is. Lamentations 3:31 to 32 reminds us The Lord will not cast off forever Though He brings grief He will show compassion because of His great love

If you feel abandoned right now do not walk away from God. Bring that pain to Him. He is not offended by your honesty. He is not distant from your tears. He is near even when you cannot feel Him.

You are not abandoned
You are not forgotten
You are still deeply loved by God

And His love has never left you even in the darkest season of your life
