The apostle Peter declared in this verse that Jesus the Messiah had been foretold in the Old Testament. These prophecies were like “a light that shineth in a dark place.” But when He arrived on earth, the full light of His glory burst forth, like the dawning of a new day.
Jesus as the light is a central theme of the New Testament. He Himself declared, “I am the light of the world (John 8:12). Believers are known as “children of light” (Ephesians 5:8).
2 Peter 1:19 – 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
