2. When Faith Collides With Doubt (Matthew 11:1-6)

Have you ever had expectations that turn out to be very different from reality? For example, have you ever bought something, gone somewhere, or experienced something only to discover that it wasn’t what you expected? Have you ever volunteered for a ministry, only to find out that it was different than you had expected? Years ago we took our children for a summer vacation to Prince Edward Island (PEI) in eastern Canada. We had many plans about what we would do there, one of which was to visit the setting of Lucy Montgomery’s beloved tale, Anne of Green Gables, and then to see the play based on that story in the theatre. Upon our arrival in PEI, I phoned the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown to order tickets for the play, only to be told that there were none - they were sold out weeks ahead of time. The lady in the box office suggested that we might possibly get tickets if we lined up at the box office really early before the show and hope that someone cancelled. You can understand the extreme disappointment we all felt. This wasn't what we had expected. So, we decided we would line up and hope we got tickets.
