This peristyle garden in Pompeii may well have had both flowers and fruit but today it is just a flower garden. One of the more surprising finds is the watering systems. Not only have pipes and sprinkler systems been found in these gardens, but the use of gravity, by having large tubs above the garden so gravity could create a drip system. The ancients were not necessarily lacking in engineering skills.
And as for their artistic skills in painting, sculpture and other arts, there can be no doubt.

Or what kind of cookware could survive an inferno in a house and not melt or fall apart?
That one in the middle looks like a well made copper pot to me.
