There were some disappointments in Oxford– we didn’t get to go into the Bodleian Library— one of the oldest and greatest libraries in the U.K. nor in the Radcliffe Camera, nor in C.S. Lewis’ college Magdalen (pronounced Maudlin), nor in the Eagle and Child pub where the Inkling, (Tolkien, Lewis, Williams, and others) met and read their fictional works to one another over a pint. Sadly it’s under renovation and will not be reopened until next March. What we did get to do, is stroll through some interesting streets, and discover: 1) that Lewis Carroll when he attended Oxford was the library at Christ Church college, and here is a little shop commemorating his literary works…. oh dear, I’m late, I’m late for a very important date….
And we also got to go to the old covered market… and discovered that I had a shop there making delicious cookies!!!!
As Marie Antoinette once said…. ‘Let them eat Ben’s cookies– bon appetit’
And were that not enough, try these first before cookies…
