The Wesley Heritage Tour— The Last Day1 2026-10-04T08:41:03-04:00 Ben Witherington There were a variety of things the group did on the last day, after the river cruise (about which more in a subsequent post), but one thing Emine recommended is going and seeing The Cafe Royale and having a bite to eat– sort of like dining where there used to be stars. Here are some shots of the place the literati and the famous gathered. As for the former, this place was opened in 1895 and almost immediately featured Oscar Wilde, then Virginia Woolf, then more recently John le Carre of spy novel fame, and you will see pages of their works hanging in the lobby of the place! This was also the place Charles and Diana frequented not to mention Mick and Keith from the Rolling Stones, and David Bowie. But I digress— the food was unbelievable, and the cost for lunch was, as the British would say was ‘not too dear’. Laura had cheese souffle, Ann had mushrooms in a rich gravy, and I had beefsteak in a nice sauce… and afterwards we had profiteroles with chocolate sauce, among other delights.
