The Greenville Sox and Lewis’ Divine Swine

There are many good reasons to visit Greenville, not the least of which is to go see the beautiful single A Red Sox ballpark where the Greenville farm team plays….

Yes they have their own smaller version of the Green Monstah like at Fenway.   And they have a famous native son baseball player— Shoeless Joe Jackson whose’ statue stands just outside the park, as does his former home.

Another major attraction in Greenville is frankly the largest BBQ restaurant I’ve ever seen with 12 ovens to cook the divine swine, and seating for hundreds inside and out.  And no, it was not named after my relatives, but nevertheless it is Lewis BBQ…

While this establishment is excellent and the food is excellent, I have a  sneaking suspicion it’s an import from Texas.  Why, you ask?  Firstly, the pork is pulled not chopped, secondly, they major in brisket in various combinations and sizes, thirdly they serve it with a slice of white bread, fourthly they do not pre-vinegar the pork before you get it, and fifthly, they have no clue how to make authentic nanner pudding.  There were no bananas, no vanilla wafers, no proper custard or cream… it was just some sort of gooey pudding with none of the items I mentioned.  Not acceptable.   And even the mild sausage was not mild, it was 2 alarm.   Nonetheless the food was otherwise good.  Oh yes, someone needs to teach them how to properly make potato salad, which does not include smothering it in paprika…..  I’m just saying.
