1s & 2s— Paint with Tools

Bible Story: Josiah Read the Scroll 2 Kings 22:1–23:3
Life Point: The Bible teaches people what to do.
Weekly Verse: Obey God and follow His commands. Deuteronomy 27:10

Materials: Teaching Picture 8, plastic tools, shallow container of paint, paper, painting smocks

  • Help preschoolers put on smocks before painting. Give each one a piece of paper.
  • Show preschoolers how to press a tool in the paint and then on her paper. Name the different tools that are being used.
  • Show the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story. Comment that God’s words were on the Bible scroll that Josiah found. Say that the Bible teaches people what to do.

3–Pre-K— Make a Verse Marker

Weekly Verse: Obey God and follow His commands. Deuteronomy 27:10

Materials: Teaching Picture 8, 2-by-9-inch construction paper strips, adhesive labels printed with the Weekly Verse, colorful stickers

  • Arrange the materials on a table. Tell the Bible story as kids come to the table.
  • Comment that God’s words are in the Bible, and the Bible teaches people what to do.
  • Invite kids to make verse markers for their Bibles. Allow each child to choose a color of paper strip, attach a verse label, and decorate with the stickers. 
  • Tell kids to put the markers in their Bibles to remember that God wants people to read and learn from the Bible.

Kindergarten—Paint with Hammers

Life Point: The Bible teaches people what to do.
Weekly Verse: Obey God and follow His commands. Deuteronomy 27:10

Materials: Teaching Picture 8, paper, paint in bowls, spoons, plastic hammers, painting smocks, marker

  • Print the Weekly Verse on a paper for each kid. As kids arrive at the art table, show the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story. Mention that the workers probably used hammers to repair the temple.
  • Help kids put on smocks before painting. As you give each child a piece of paper, read together the verse. Say that the Bible teaches people what to do.
  • Tell the kids to spoon some paint on her paper, cover it with another paper, then hammer over the paint.
  • Thank God for the Bible.
