1s & 2s—Play with a Rolling Book

Bible Story: David Wrote a Song of Thanks Psalm 138
Life Point: The Bible tells about God.
Weekly Verse: I will remember God’s words. Psalm 116:19

Materials: Teaching Picture 7; empty round can or box; magazine pictures or photos of the Bible; glue

  • Glue the pictures to cover the box. Attach the lid with glue. You could add a few jingle bells inside the box before attaching the lid.
  • Roll the book to a preschooler. Call attention to the pictures on the box. Say a prayer to thank God for the Bible that tells about God. Comment that God loves us and gave us the Bible.
  • Show the teaching picture of David. Say the Weekly Verse as the preschoolers continue to play.

3–Pre-K— Draw to Music

Weekly Verse: I will remember God’s words. Psalm 116:19

Materials: Teaching Picture 7, paper, markers, Music

  • Display the teaching picture at the art table. Place the music near the table. 
  • Play a song about God as children draw with the markers. Encourage them to draw something for which they can thank God.
  • Point to the teaching picture. Comment that David wrote a song about God. That song is in our Bible. 
  • Encourage the boys and girls to say the Weekly Verse with you.

Kindergarten—Match Verse Words

Bible Story: David Wrote a Song of Thanks Psalm 138
Life Point: The Bible tells about God.
Weekly Verse: I will remember God’s words. Psalm 116:19

Materials: index cards, marker, tape, wooden blocks

  • Print each word of the Weekly Verse on a card. Make two sets of words. Tape each word to a block. Lay the blocks facedown on the floor. 
  • Guide a child to turn over blocks, two at a time, to find the matching words. When a match is found, set aside the words. If a match is not found, turn the words facedown again.
  • When all the words are found, separate them into two sets. Help the children put the words in order. 
  • Say the verse together. Comment that God gave us the Bible and the Bible helps us learn about God.
  • Mix the words facedown to play the game again.
