1s & 2s— Play with a Parachute

Bible Story: God Chose David 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Life Point: God knows about every person.
Weekly Verse: God knows what I do and what I think. Psalm 139:2

Materials: Teaching Picture 5, parachute or round tablecloth, music

  • Invite the preschoolers to hold on to the parachute and gently lower and raise it. Say the Weekly Verse or the Life Point as you help the children lower and raise the parachute.
  • Continue by telling the Bible story. Show the teaching picture and comment that God chose David to be king.
  • Play a song and guide the preschoolers to move the parachute in time with the music.
  • Pray, thanking God that He knows about every person.

3–Pre-K— Dress Like Shepherds

Bible Story: God Chose David 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Life Point: God knows about every person.
Weekly Verse: God knows what I do and what I think. Psalm 139:2

Materials: Bible times dress up clothes (robes, belts, scarves for headpieces), shepherds’ crooks cut from cardboard (optional), digital camera or smart phone

  • Invite boys and girls to dress up in the Bible times clothes. Tell the Bible story as you assist children in dressing. Comment that David was a shepherd and spent much of his time tending to sheep.
  • Remind the children that God knows about every person. Say that He knew that David was the person to become the new king.
  • Offer to take children’s pictures. Encourage the children to pretend they are caring for sheep.

Kindergarten— Play a Counting Game

Bible Story: God Chose David 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Life Point: God knows about every person.
Weekly Verse: God knows what I do and what I think. Psalm 139:2

Materials: Teaching Picture 5, small paper bags, number cube, large white and black pom-poms

  • Arrange the pom-poms in a stack on a table. Place the number cube, bags, and teaching picture with the pom-poms.
  • When kids show interest in the activity, tell the Bible story. Comment that David was a shepherd; he took care of sheep.
  • Invite kids to play the game. If two kids are playing, one can be black and the other whites. Guide a child to toss the cube and count that many “sheep” into her bag. Then the child using the black pom-poms can do the same.
  • Continue to talk about David as the kids play the game. Remind the kids that God knew everything about David; God knew He wanted David to be the new king. Say the Weekly Verse together.
