Preschool: Learn About God: Session 1—Samuel in the Tabernacle (June 2)

1s & 2s—Build a Church

Bible Story: Samuel in the Tabernacle 1 Samuel 1:24-28; 2:18-26; 3:1-21
Life Point: God is real and people can know about Him.
Weekly Verse: I am God; there is no God but Me. Isaiah 45:5

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, cardboard blocks, picture of your church

Display the teaching picture and church picture with the blocks.
Invite the preschoolers to stack the blocks as you tell the Bible story. Say that Samuel heard God speak to him, and Samuel learned about God at the tabernacle (church).
Point to Samuel in the teaching picture. Show the picture of your church. Comment that they are learning about God at church.

3–Pre-K— Paint a Resist

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, white construction paper, white crayons, thinned blue paint, paintbrushes, painting smocks

Before the session, use a white crayon to print the Weekly Verse across the top of each paper. Print the words with heavy lines.
Help a child put on a smock before painting. Tell him you have written a secret message across the top of his paper. Encourage him to use a white crayon to add a design to the bottom part of his paper. Tell him to make the lines heavy.
After a child is finished drawing, he can paint over his whole paper with the thin paint to reveal the message and his drawing.
Show the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story as children draw and paint. Read the message at the top of the page.

Kindergarten— Make Clothespin People

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, peg-type clothespins, fine-point permanent markers, wooden blocks; Option: fabric scraps, glue sticks

Place the materials with the blocks. Prop the teaching picture where the kids can see it.
Show kids the clothespins and pens. Explain how to use the pens to draw facial features on the head of the clothespin. As an option, kids can glue fabric on the clothespins to make clothes for their people.
Encourage kids to play out the Bible story using two people and the blocks. Point to the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story. Comment that Samuel heard God speak and learned about Him at the tabernacle. Say that God is real, and people can know about Him.
