Practicing Forgiveness as God Forgives You

Forgiveness is one of the most powerful and challenging parts of the Christian walk. It is easy to talk about love, faith, and kindness when life feels peaceful, but when someone hurts us deeply, forgiveness can feel almost impossible. Yet practicing forgiveness is essential if we want to grow closer to God. It is not just something God asks us to do. It is something that reflects His very nature.

At the heart of forgiveness is the understanding that we have been forgiven first. Every person has fallen short in some way, and yet God, in His mercy, chooses to forgive us. When we truly grasp how much we have been forgiven, it begins to change the way we see others. Forgiveness becomes less about what someone deserves and more about extending the same grace that God has given to us.

Ephesians 4:31 and 32 speaks directly to this. It says, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” This verse reminds us that forgiveness is not optional for a believer
