Narcissus Redivivus

5 hours ago 2

Fame is a harlot

Dressed for success

The more gaudy the better

But sadly, more is less!

You wanted that attention

Sold your soul for applause,

Adoration, and devotion

A rebel with no cause.

Narcissus saw himself

Reflected in the pool

Ignored the imperfections

Chose to play the fool.

Fans are not family

They’re there when you do well

But when you fail or fall

They let you go to hell.

If you fall in love

With your own persona

A monotonous courtship follows

Without crown or corona.

Humans are not stars

Much less galaxies

They shine when serving other’s needs

Not selfish fantasies.

A famous man once said

I came to serve, not be served

He gave his life for others

Sought no credit, which he deserved.

Taking up one’s cross

Involves self-sacrifice

The opposite of egotism

And the world’s advice

Stop looking in the mirror

Your future can be clear

Ask yourself the question,

Why has God put me here?

Salvation is not the same thing

As fame or mere success

It is not a self-help scheme

Or trying to impress.

Material possessions

Cannot make you whole

In fact, they cannot fill

The God-shaped vacuum in your soul

So put away the selfies

And focus on another,

I’d say start with Jesus

You need a wise big brother.
