There was a time when sin was recognized as sin and righteousness was honored as something worthy of respect But today many are asking a difficult question Has America reached a place where sin is acceptable and righteousness has become offensive
This question is not merely about culture or public opinion It is about the shifting of moral boundaries and the condition of the heart When what God calls wrong is celebrated and what He calls right is criticized something serious is taking place
The Bible warned about this long ago Isaiah 5:20 says Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil that put darkness for light and light for darkness This scripture speaks directly to a society where moral lines are reversed What was once condemned may now be applauded while truth is labeled hateful or outdated
One of the clearest signs of this shift is the normalization of behavior that scripture calls sinful Romans 1:32 describes people who not only commit such things but have pleasure in them that do them This means sin is not just practiced but openly approved and even promoted
At the same time righteousness often becomes offensive because it challenges the status quo John 3:20 says For every one that doeth evil hateth the light neither cometh to the light lest his deeds should be reproved Light exposes what darkness tries to hide When people live contrary to God’s truth they may resist anyone or anything that brings conviction
Jesus Himself warned that truth would not always be welcomed John 15:18 says If the world hate you ye know that it hated me before it hated you This reminds us that righteousness has often faced opposition because it confronts human pride and calls for change
Another reason righteousness may seem offensive is because society increasingly values personal preference over absolute truth Proverbs 14:12 says There is a way which seemeth right unto a man but the end thereof are the ways of death What feels right to people is not always what is right in the eyes of God
There is also a danger when compassion is confused with compromise True love does not ignore sin It points people toward truth Ephesians 4:15 says Speaking the truth in love Righteousness is not about condemnation but about guiding people toward life and healing
When sin becomes acceptable the consequences are not only personal but collective A society built on shifting morality eventually loses stability Proverbs 14:34 reminds us Righteousness exalteth a nation but sin is a reproach to any people Sin brings shame confusion and decline when it is embraced as normal
Yet there is still hope God’s truth has not changed Malachi 3:6 says For I am the Lord I change not Even when culture shifts His standard remains firm and His mercy remains available
The call is not to attack people but to return to truth James 4:8 says Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you This invitation is open to anyone willing to seek Him and turn from what separates them from Him
The real question is not only what America has accepted but what each individual has accepted in their own life Have we become comfortable with what God calls sin Have we become resistant to righteousness because it convicts us
Truth may be unpopular but it is still truth And righteousness may be offensive to some but it remains the path that leads to life peace and restoration
