2 weeks ago 11

Grades 1-3

Introductory Activity – Prophecy Puzzle

Materials: index cards

Before class, write Isaiah 11:1-5 on index cards, one verse on each card, and hide them throughout your room. (Do not put the verse references on the cards.) In class, inform the kids that you have hidden verse cards throughout the room. Instruct them to find them and then put them in order. Afterward, explain that this is a prophecy concerning the Messiah given hundreds of years before Jesus’s birth. Write the Life Point on the board and have everyone say it together.

Game – Prophecy Path

Materials: masking tape, paper

Before class, create a simple maze on your floor using masking tape. Place the review questions from the lesson throughout the maze. In class, tell the kids they will go through the maze and will answer the questions as they come to them. After everyone has completed the maze, review each question with the entire group.

Craft – Prophecy Speakers

Materials: construction paper, Bibles, markers

Give each child a piece of construction paper, and ensure everyone can access a Bible and markers. Direct the kids to pick one of the prophecies from today’s lesson and write it on their page. Instruct them to draw a “talk bubble” around the prophecy. Next, tell them to draw and color the prophet who spoke that prophecy, whether it is Isaiah or Micah, so it looks like the prophet is speaking the prophecy. Direct them to write the Life Point on the bottom of their pictures.

Grades 4-6

Introductory Activity – Messiah Charades

Materials: whiteboard, markers, cup, slips of paper

Before class, write the prophecies from today’s lesson on the whiteboard. Write phrases from the prophecies on slips of paper and place them in a large cup. In class, ask volunteers to pull a slip of paper out of the cup and act it out without talking so the other children can guess the phrase. Encourage the kids to look at the verses on the board to help them figure out the answer. Afterward, write the Life Point on the board and say it together.
Possible phrases to write down: Wonderful Counselor; The Lord Himself will give you a sign; Prince of Peace; The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him.; A shoot Will Grow from the stump of Jesse.

Game – Prophecy Connection

Materials: index cards, pens, Bibles

Before class, write down phrases from each of the prophecies in today’s lesson, one per card. On four other index cards, write down the four references. Make two sets of each. In class, form two teams of kids. Give each team the phrases and reference index cards. Instruct the teams to match the phrases with the passages. Encourage them to use their Bibles to determine the correct answers. The first team to correctly match the phrases with the passage locations is the winner!
Possible phrases to write down: “The Lord Himself will give you a sign.”; “The government will be upon His shoulders.” “A shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse.”

Craft – Prophecy Mural

Materials: bulletin board paper, markers, Bibles, tape

Lay a long piece of paper on the floor in your room. Ensure each child has a Bible and instruct them to choose one of the prophecies from today’s lesson. Direct them to read the prophecy and then draw a picture representing that prophecy on the paper. Afterward, allow each child to explain their picture to the class. At the bottom of the paper, write the Life Point in large letters and say it together. Tape the Prophecy Mural to your wall so the kids can be reminded of God’s plan throughout the Christmas season.
