General Approach
This verse by verse expositional study of the book of Proverbs began in 2019 and is ongoing.* As an expositional study, its contention is that the verses are not to be read simply as individual "silos" but rather as having natural contexts which are important for a full understanding of the intent. Though the verses do each have their distinct focus (like the facet of a diamond) they are expressed with an understanding of their relationship to the rest of the book and the specific verses around them. Despite what many people say and how the book is often studies, this main section of Proverbs is not haphazard and random. The verses have both an overall and near context that matters. Bruce Waltke and others have very helpfully noted the interconnected nature of verses and sections, so this is not a unique or novel perspective. Very few, however, apply these realities to expositionally preaching through Proverbs. May this be of help in remedying that lack. May it lead us more deeply into wisdom. May it help us see Christ more clearly "in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:3) May it help us in growing more Christ-like in our godliness. May we know the reality of the wisdom of the fear of the Lord in our day to day lives.
